To end 2024, I wanted to create a special library based on a single word: Purity. What kind of sounds could I create using that word and meaning as my North Star? I’ve owned a couple Crystal Singing Bowls for a handful of years and felt that they would be a great centerpiece for building this library. I played and sampled 3 different bowls: a 10″ White E2 bowl, an 8″ White A2 bowl and a 6″ Purple B2 bowl. I played them with a large rubber mallet and with leather covered sticks. I played normal hits as well as what I call “Awakening” where I am spinning the mallet inside the bowl or the leather on the top of the bowl to create sounds that evolve and grow – like really grow to the point of distorting my microphones if I wasn’t careful!
Another side of the bowls that have not been discovered was using them as rhythm instruments. I both performed phrases which I recycled, as well 171 “drum hit” samples mapped into 3 different Drum menus. I then created 5 MIDI file based grooves for each of the 3 kits. So there are 15 Drum grooves and 8 tuned loops that are also included.
On top of these acoustic instruments, I also designed an ensemble of synth and bell patches I created from sampling some of my favorite software synths: AAS Chromophone, U-He Zebra 2 HZ and Cherry Audio’s Dream Synth. These bells and pads have so much character and energy and when combined with the Singing Bowls, pure magic was found and saved!
All of this combined makes for one of the most inspiring libraries created to date for Unify. These sounds send such pure healing energy into the spirit of whoever is listening to them, that it really shows the power of music when presented in it’s most pure forms!

These are the Crystal and Metal bowls I sampled for this library. Sadly right after this session, the largest bowl in the middle (E2) broke and will no only live on in this library. It was a sad moment when the tiny metal Bowl fell off a stool into the bowl, breaking out the bottom of it. But it lives on in this library!

Evolving beauty
As with many of John’s libraries, you need to press a key and wait to fully understand the attention to detail and quality of the sounds, This library is immersive and by adjusting the attack a ‘ting’ becomes a pad. I found Purity beautiful to listen to and inspirational enough to write a new piece straight away. With preset’s such as ‘Galaxy’ you just lose youirself as it has a life of its own. Once again, highly recommended.
